Saturday May 15th was the first important date in the history of Imperial Ireland Taekwon Do Association (IITA), when its President and secretary general of the I.T.F, Master Trevor Nicholls VIII degree, made his first trip to the south east of Ireland to conduct a master class.
The seminar was well supported by students of Imperial Ireland, who were extremely eager to learn and also by members of ITF Eireann and Red Star Taekwon Do, some of whom had travelled a great distance.
The main focus of the class was correct use of the body to increase power and also to ensure, through correct foot positioning, maximum power could be acheived whilst kicking. To prove this point, Master Nicholls demonstrated the perfect turning kick on 2 plastic boards (equal to 5.5 inches).
Master Nicholls covered all the colour belt patterns, making corrections and encouraging students to put into practice the earlier aspects of correct foot positioning and power.
The higher grades then worked on patterns Yoo Sin and Choi Yong, with corrections from Master Nicholls.
The group, which included students from 8th kup up to 6th degree (Mr Henry O''Neil ,ITF Eireann) worked hard for over 2.5 hours.
A very tired but extremely motivated group then posed for photo''s, then two of Imperial Ireland''s youngest students presented Master Nicholls with some traditional sporting equipment (Hurley stick and Sliotar) from Ireland''s national game; Hurling.
To finish a fantastic day, some of the students who had attended the seminar spent a few more hours in Master Nicholls company with an evening meal at a local Wexford restaurant.
We would like to thank Master Nicholls for making the trip over to Wexford and for taking time out from his very busy schedule to meet the students of Imperial Ireland and for passing on some of his vast knowledge of Taekwon Do.
Thank you and Taekwon.
