Taekwondo ITF Nepal organized 5th Everest Open International Taekwondo Championship Sucessfully on 28th February to 1st March 2025 at Kathmandu University Hall, Kavre, Nepal.
Around 350 players and officials from India, China , Malaysia and Nepal participants took part in the 5th Everest open international open Taekwondo championship. This Championship was run offering both ITF and WT styles for the first time in Nepal.
On 28th February, before the Championship, Master Laxman Basnet conducted a one hour flexibility seminar for all participants.
ITF and WT competitors participated in the competition. Master Laxman Basnet, the competition Director and Founding President of Taekwondo ITF Nepal, said that the competition was organized with the aim of increasing brotherhood and mutual harmony between both Taekwon-Do styles, with the feeling that ITF and WT are same family members.
There were 92 different catogories and competitors fought in sparring and tuls for 67 gold, 67 silver and 134 bronze medals in the ITF event. Nepal won 47 gold medals, Malaysia won 17 gold medals, China won 2 gold medals, and India won 1 gold medal at the ITF style. Nepal's Shubham Lamsal and Malaysia's Afza Farah Nadin were declared the best players in the men's category and the women's categories respectively. India won 2 gold and 1 silver in 25 categories in the WT, while the remaining medals were won by Nepali athletes.
In the medal ceremony, Chief Guests were Former Nepal Government Asst. Minister Biraj Bahadur Bista, Guest Radhakrishnan Puthanpura (President of ITFiC India), Yang Haibo (Executive President of ITF China), Master Khoo Bu Leong from Malaysia, Yang Lejin (President of ITF China), Liu Chen (General Secretary of ITF China), Master Rakesh Rai (General Secretary of National Taekwondo Association of Nepal), WT Grand Master Sherbahadur Thapa, along with Master Laxman Basnet. All guests distributed medals and certificates to all winners, placed competitors, all Umpires and supporters.
In the ceremony the president of ITAF Council India said that mutual goodwill has increased among the players and that the players are very happy to have the opportunity to participate. ITF China President Yang said that they are grateful to Nepal and the organizers for the goodwill and generosity shown by the Nepalese people in the competition. Master Khoo Bu Leong of Malaysia said that they are very happy with the organization of the games, which were completed in a dignified and grand manner. Also he said " Master Laxman gave the contestants a flexibilty workshop which we had never seen in competitions before. I felt it was very rare and pretty good.
In closing, Master Basnet gave special thanks to all supporters who helped to make this event so successful. He looks forward to seeing all visitors return, along with more countries, at the next Everest Open International.
